AlluraDerm MD Med Spa is the TOP PROVIDER of the JUVÉDERM® family of fillers in the state of New Mexico!
As we age, our skin loses flexibility and the capability to retain moisture and produce collagen. This loss of volume and sagging skin results in wrinkles, folds, loss of contour, and hollowness. Surgical procedures have enabled men and women to look younger longer, but non-surgical procedures are now able to have a dramatic effect on combating the signs of aging as well.
Injecting facial fillers or dermal fillers for restoration and enhancements is highly skill dependent. It does not matter how long someone has been injecting as injection techniques have changed over time. Aesthetic norms have evolved, and injection products have been refined. At AlluraDerm MD Med Spa, in Albuquerque, we have developed our own proprietary techniques and injection strategies to achieve subtle but cosmetically pleasing results. We are proud to announce that AlluraDerm hosts the:

Facial Fillers / Dermal Fillers
Facial fillers or dermal fillers are injected into the skin to restore youthful appearance by lifting and contouring the face, removing wrinkles and folds, and filling in shadows that create a gaunt look. These injections are relatively painless procedures that yield visible results instantly! At AlluraDerm MD Med Spa, we use only the safest, FDA-approved fillers to help patients achieve a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Lips are a natural focal point of the human face. With age, there is natural loss of volume both within the lip itself and the surrounding area. However, it is not simply a matter of injecting fillers into those areas to produce a more restored and youthful appearance. Lips have a complex interplay of tissues such that placing filler in one area may alter the way another area looks. Because of this, lip restoration or augmentation is extremely individualized. The physician injectors at AlluraDerm MD Med Spa provide patients with the time and knowledge necessary for determining an appropriate treatment plan. We want to ensure that patients achieve their desired effect while receiving the best possible care!
“I went in for a lip filler after seeing my sister in laws results. I was not disappointed! The staff was friendly and Dr. Lam did an amazing job! He analyzed the look I wanted and he explained everything along the way. I will definitely be back!”
What is JUVÉDERM®?
The main dermal or skin fillers we use are the JUVÉDERM® family of fillers which includes Voluma XC, Vollure XC, Volbella XC, Ultra XC, and Ultra Plus XC. The JUVÉDERM® family of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar molecule found in skin and joints. The JUVÉDERM® portfolio is the industry’s leader in skin fillers and the #1 filler in the world. AlluraDerm also offers the Restylane® family of fillers, which is the oldest family of skin fillers. However, since JUVÉDERM® entered the arena, it has become the industry’s leader thanks to the superior results it has achieved. Terms like “JUVÉDERM® lip injection” have now become common names.
Why JUVÉDERM® family of fillers?
This portfolio is fantastic at restoring volume loss, such as cheek and lip volume, due to aging, exercise, or diet. These fillers are excellent for what some people call the “parenthesis” or smile lines that run down from the nose, medically known as the nasolabial folds, and the fold lines that run down from the corner of the mouth, commonly known as the marionette lines. When used correctly, fillers can contour, restore, or lift the face to give a healthier, youthful, and more refreshed appearance. Different fillers have unique physical properties that our physician injectors utilize to restore or enhance the appearance. Much like an artist using a palette of colors to create a masterpiece, Dr. Lam uses the range of fillers to create the desired result.

JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC or ULTRA PLUS XC
JUVÉDERM® Ultra or Ultra Plus are skin fillers that are used to add volume and hydration to aging skin. Both JUVÉDERM® Ultra and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus are FDA approved for nasolabial folds and marionette lines and can last up to one year! Their secret is the HylacrossTM technology that gives a hydrated appearance to the skin. They each have different properties, so the physician injector will choose the most appropriate filler and discuss the options with you. JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC is also FDA-approved for lip augmentation!
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA XC
JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC is the first and only injectable treatment that’s been FDA-approved to correct a loss of volume in the cheeks due to age. What makes this product unique from other facial and dermal fillers is its safety and efficacy data for deep injections to produce a natural lift. In fact, Voluma is FDA approved to be injected in the supraperiosteal plane, which is right on top of bone, the same plane that some surgical implants are placed. JUVÉDERM® Voluma is called VOLIFT in Europe and had been in the European market before entering the United States. In 2013, Voluma was FDA approved in the U.S.A. and is first in the family of the patented Vycross™ technology. Voluma adds subtle, youthful-looking contours to the face, and the results of a single treatment can last for up to 2 years.
JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA XC
Imagine having less wrinkles or more youthful lips for up to a year! Well now you can! JUVÉDERM® Volbella is FDA approved for injection into the lips for a subtle augmentation and for wrinkle correction around the mouth. What makes this product unique is its ability to improve the appearance of fine lines and create subtle improvements around the lips. AlluraDerm MD Med Spa is proud to be the first to offer this treatment in New Mexico.
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE® XC
AlluraDerm MD Med Spa is also proud to be the first to offer JUVÉDERM® Vollure in New Mexico. JUVÉDERM® Vollure is the latest addition to the JUVÉDERM® range of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers produced using the unique Vycross™ technology. The unique property of Vollure is its ability to create support without creating bulk. This provides versatile treatment options for patients looking for a refreshed look as well as gently restored natural-looking contours in the lower face with long-lasting results for up to 18 months. Vollure enhances the JUVÉDERM® family of fillers by letting the injector use the different properties for different aesthetic needs.
The Restylane family of fillers is used to smooth away wrinkles and folds (Restylane-L®and Restylane® Lyft), create fuller and more accentuated lips (Restylane-L® and Restylane® Silk), and add lift and volume to the cheeks (Restylane® Lyft). Restylane® Lyft was previously known as Perlane.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Where can we treat with dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®?
A: JUVÉDERM® family of fillers has different FDA approvals for each filler in its portfolio. Voluma is FDA approved for the cheeks. Ultra, Ultra plus, and Vollure are FDA approved for perioral areas including nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Ultra and Volbella are FDA approved for the lips, and Volbella is FDA approved for vertical lip lines. However, dermal fillers have been used to treat temples, buccal area, ear lobes, jaw line, chin, and neck lines. In the past, they have also been used to treat glabella lines, or “elevens”, and the nose for non-surgical rhinoplasty. However, there have been recent reports of rare cases of blindness when treating these areas with any fillers (including fat transfer, sculptra, and radiesse). Although this has never happened at AlluraDerm MD Med Spa, we have chosen not to continue treating these areas with fillers. Adding to the safety of AlluraDerm MD Med Spa patients, Dr. Lam is one of the few trained anesthesiologists in New Mexico who has trained others in retrobulbar injections, the only reported case of salvaging blindness caused by an intravascular injection of filler.
Q: What is Radiesse, Sculptra, Bellafill?
A: Radiesse, Sculptra, and Bellafill belong to a group of facial or dermal fillers that are non-hyaluronic acid-based fillers. They can potentially last longer and stimulate collagen where injected. However, there is no reversal for them. If they do not produce a satisfactory result, there is no injection to bring things back to the way it was. Also, although stimulation of collagen may be a good thing, it can lead to nodules or lumps that cannot be dissolved by an enzyme. More importantly, if they compress a blood vessel, there is no reversal to save the skin from ischemia, which is a major catastrophe. The skin turns purple and dies off, leaving a hole in the area the blood vessel supplies, not just the area the filler is injected. For these reasons, we do not use non-hyaluronic acid fillers at AlluraDerm.
Q: What are Cheek Fillers?
A: Cheek fillers are facial or dermal fillers that are injected into the cheek region to help produce a more youthful and natural appearance. When injected correctly, they can lift, contour, and shape the face to restore the natural appearance. Each filler in the market has different physical properties and different evidence on their safety and efficacy in a particular area of the face. The common fillers used for the cheek are the JUVÉDERM® Collection, Restylane® Collection, Radiesse, Bellafill, and Sculptra.
At the time of writing, only Restylane® Lyft and JUVÉDERM® Voluma are the classic FDA approved cheek fillers. However, Voluma is by far the market leader in this arena due to its physical properties and robust scientific data on safety and efficacy. For example, JUVÉDERM® Voluma is the only filler in the group that has been tested in peer reviewed literature to reveal that aspiration tests can show a positive result within clinical settings of 2 seconds of negative pressure. This means that if the needle is in a blood vessel, only JUVÉDERM® Voluma will allow a reflux of blood in a 2 second aspiration, but not any other filler in the U.S.A. Since the cheek has many branches of blood vessels, such as the infraorbital artery, this safety property reduces the risk of intra-arterial injection and ischemia. Of course, knowledge of anatomy and key techniques play an important role in safety. But ultimately, aspiration tests with JUVÉDERM® Voluma make it even safer than other fillers can offer. It is akin to a good driver using defensive driving to reduce the risk of a car accident and the Voluma is the safety belt.
Radiesse, Bellafill, and Sculptra are not hyaluronic acid-based fillers and do not have a reversal agent or enzyme to dissolve them. Hence, the risk of injecting them into an area filled with blood vessels, such as a cheek, is not an endeavor that the physician injectors at AlluraDerm practice. Also, although they are used in the cheek, at the time of writing, they are not FDA approved to treat volume loss in the cheek area per se. Bellafill is FDA approved to treat the cheek area, but only for superficial placement to treat acne scars. Radiesse is FDA approved to treat facial wrinkles such as nasolabial folds. The FDA approval for Sculptra does not mention the check.
Also, we must remember that the cheek is not simply one location in the face. There are various regions and zones that the physician injector will consider when determining the most beneficial treatment for each patient. Indeed, the most important factor for an aesthetically pleasing result from a cheek filler is the injector. Unlike the use of fillers to treat lines and folds, the use of cheek fillers to restore or augment a person’s appearance depends not only on the technical skill and anatomical knowledge, but also the artistic visualization of the injector. Fortunately, AlluraDerm houses Dr. Lam, the FIRST and ONLY injector in New Mexico to achieve the status of being a TOP 50 injector in the country 3 years in a row. As such, he is the #1 injector for cheek augmentation in the state.
Q: What are the common side effects?
A: Dermal fillers or skin fillers are injections, and side effects that relate to that include site injection marks, redness, swelling, and bruising. Typically, these are mild and go away. Some patients have a higher risk of bruising and swelling. Examples include elderly patients, patients with frail skin, and patients on medications or supplements that “thin” the blood. Some areas of treatment, such as around the eyes, lower face, and fine lines, are more prone to bruising. Some areas, including the lips, are very prone to swelling. Even though the social downtimes for dermal fillers are typically minimal, at AlluraDerm, we are very respectful of your life’s events and discuss not only the treatment modalities, but also the timing of your treatment with you. To see if dermal fillers are right for you and to schedule a free consultation prior to treatment by the #1 injector in New Mexico, call 505-847-5503.
Q: How much do dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® cost?
A: The cost of dermal fillers depends on the injector and the amount used. Each full-size syringe in the JUVÉDERM® family of fillers is 1 ml of volume, about 1/5 of a teaspoon. At AlluraDerm, all injections are performed by physician injectors, and Dr. Lam is the #1 injector in New Mexico for the JUVÉDERM® family of fillers. He is also the First and ONLY injector that has received status of being TOP 50 in the country. Even though Dr. Lam performs more treatments than most injectors in L.A. and New York, AlluraDerm only charges $600 for JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC rather than $1,000 per syringe and only $900 for JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC rather than $1,500 like some practices. Occasionally, there will be specials for JUVÉDERM® fillers either on their own or as a combination. Call us at 505-847-5503 to see if there are any specials today, or sign up on our email list for monthly specials.
Q: What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® and Botox®?
A: JUVÉDERM®, or JUVÉDERM® family of fillers, is biologically compatible sugar molecules known as hyaluronic acid that is stabilized and injected in the face to fill in volume loss, contour the face, enhance the lips, and reduce the appearance of folds and shadow. Botox® is purified proteins that, when injected into muscles, reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles created by muscle movement such as the “elevens” between the eyes and crows feet. To learn more about JUVÉDERM® and Botox®, to see if these treatments are right for you, and for an opportunity to be treated by Dr. Lam, the #1 provider of Botox® and JUVÉDERM® in New Mexico, call us for a free consultation at 505-847-5503.
Q: What is Xeomin and Dysport?
A: Dysport (Galderma), Xeomin (Merz), and Jeuveau (Evolus) are purified proteins that have been marketed to be similar or the same as Botox® (Allergan). They are not the same product and do not have the same results. Botox® was the first brand of muscle relaxer that was FDA approved for cosmetic use, long before Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. Also, Botox® has more FDA approved areas for cosmetic use than Dysport, Xeomin, or Jeuveau. Botox® is the most used cosmetic muscle relaxer in the U.S.A. It has been reported that more than 75% of cosmetic muscle relaxer users use Botox®. It should be noted that Botox®, Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeuveau are NOT dermal fillers, but instead are muscle relaxants used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by excessive muscle contraction in the face. Call us at 505-847-5503 to find out if dermal fillers are right for you, and to schedule a complimentary consult for a chance to receive treatment by the #1 injector of Botox® and JUVÉDERM® in New Mexico.
